The kura/school:

Based in Merivale Christchurch, Heaton Normal Intermediate School is a  coeducational, two-year school catering for approximately 550 ākonga/students aged 11–13 years.

• Ākonga centred, active learning focusing on questioning, critical thinking and problem solving is a learning philosophy that underpins the way we teach. Our school is part of the global initiative, New Pedagogies for Deep Learning (NPDL).
• 7 specialists teach, food and fibre technology, hard materials technology, digital technology, visual art, performing arts, science, physical education, Te Reo Māori and dedicated Learning Support and ESOL teachers.
