Kawaha Point School is a Y1–6 primary school in Rotorua, and offers a quality education to tamariki in an innovative learning space where diversity is welcomed.

The school’s board invites applications from passionate educators who wish to drive education innovation in a school that places students’ needs at the heart of the learning and decision-making process. Our principal will foster and sustain a culture that welcomes and supports all children and their families. We seek an open, approachable leader with strong communication and learning skills who can lead the next phase of the school’s development.

The focus will be on:

  • An expert in the field of learning and pedagogy
  • Excellent knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum
  • Culturally responsive and inclusive practices that reflect our multicultural community and acknowledge the special place of Māori as tangata whenua
  • A leader who is able to lead the te reo Māori aspirations within the school
  • Learning programmes that seamlessly integrate all aspects of the curriculum
  • A professional, ethical person who appreciates the value of humour in leadership
  • A committed professional to ensure the school’s journey includes all ethnicities, while acknowledging and affirming the special bi-cultural position of Māori in developing the unique culture that will emerge in the school
  • An ability to foster relationships with students/staff/parents/caregivers/whanau
  • An ability to work professionally and transparently with the school board.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A high level of understanding and commitment to innovative learning practices
  • A clearly articulated philosophy of learning
  • Experience in curriculum and pedagogic design
  • Experience of leading change in learning environments
  • Resilience
  • A high level of emotional intelligence
  • A strong sense of humour.

And preferably, but not essentially: 

  • Master of Educational Leadership or equivalent qualification.
