Seeking to appoint a dynamic and experienced music teacher to lead our very successful department and exceptional music programme, an effective and collaborative communicator who will work with other staff members to provide an engaging and responsive curriculum throughout the school. Leadership of the itinerant music teachers in leading musical ensembles will be a further and important aspect of the role.

Our music department has a busy annual diary of festivals, competitions and concerts – you will have a proven track record of running a variety of music ensembles to a high standard competing at a national level. 

Applicants must be NZ registered teachers with a detailed understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum. Commences term 1, 2022, meaning we are only able to appoint teachers who are fully vaccinated against Covid 19.  

The head of music must have the capacity to lead a team of music teachers to provide innovative, quality teaching and learning.

Essential personal and professional attributes for this role include:

  • High level experience and skills in conducting choirs and/or concert bands.
  • An understanding of and commitment to student wellbeing
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with a demonstrated capacity to lead, inspire and mentor teachers with a range of experience, identifying and drawing on their strengths for the benefit of the team and school
  • An ability to build collaborative teaching teams with a solution-focused mindset
  • Demonstrated commitment and capacity to actively contribute to whole school improvement initiatives, manage curriculum or student activities and a commitment to ongoing professional learning.

There will be a 0.6 teaching component attached to this position.
