We seek an enthusiastic and motivated school guidance counsellor preferably with NZ teaching qualifications (but not essential) to start asap. The key tasks of the role are to provide a high standard of support for students, to facilitate student learning by assisting students to deal with factors that impact on their performance, to ensure adequate provision of services to support students socially, emotionally and mentally, and to promote students’ self-confidence and wellbeing.
The successful applicant will be passionate about young people and the local community and be able to maintain effective and productive working relationships with the senior leadership team, students, the guidance team and outside agencies involved in services accessed by Tangaroa College students.
The guidance counsellor is a key part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes two social workers, health professionals, police officer guidance counsellor and deans who oversee and run pastoral care systems in the school.
Our college is an innovative educational institution whose staff actively promote positive outcomes for all students. All teachers are expected to support the school tutor programme that provides pastoral care and academic mentoring for students.
