Mauri ora! We are a small Integrated Special Character Democratic school where children choose their own learning contexts and help to run their school. Learning is largely play and project based; we also teach literacy and numeracy skills in small groups. Most planning is responsive, not predetermined. Classes often contain a range of ages and they occur both inside and outside. Timatanga is a full-primary with a teaching principal and two part time staff, and a parent cooperative, with daily whanau involvement.

Teaching at Timatanga is exciting, creative and rewarding, because you have the freedom to facilitate genuine learning without the usual limitations of predetermined schedules, block time frames, bells, the need to administer busy work, and predetermined unit topics and lengths.

We are seeking the right person to teach:

  • Y1-3 literacy and numeracy in the context of both skills groups and integrated curriculum (during mornings)
  • Y1-8 integrated curriculum on topics of interest (during afternoons)

Experience sought: Playcentre or similar play and provocation based learning and experience of Te Whāriki curriculum a must. Junior literacy (incl. phonics) and numeracy, hand-making, music, outdoor experiential education, integrated curriculum, Te Reo preferred.

Qualities sought: Emotional intelligence, the ability to be self-reflective and collaborative; the ability to teach responsively and to learn from your students, self-managing, passionately interested in teaching practice as an inquiry into the nature of true learning.
