Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is New Zealand's largest school and provides personalised and authentic learning programmes from early childhood to NCEA Level 3, including young adult and adult learners.

We are looking for a creative, innovative liaison teacher to join our team in Christchurch.

  • The liaison teacher's role includes providing support and guidance to full-time ākonga, particularly those with low support, for their programme of learning
  • The liaison teacher works with kaimanaaki and kaiako to support and advise on a suitable learning programme for the ākonga.
  • The role requires providing support to kaimanaaki to implement and collect assessments, both diagnostic and on-going monitoring of students' learning needs. This includes assessment to support student applications to NZQA for Special Assessment Conditions for NCEA.
  • We are seeking a team player with a strong background, experience and demonstrated aptitude in working with students at risk of low educational achievement and/or with students who have had difficulty achieving in the mainstream school environment. You will have strong relationship management and interpersonal skills. You will be required to hold a relevant teaching qualification for either primary or secondary teaching. A background in Learning Support and/or as a SENCO would be advantageous.
  • The liaison teacher travels regularly within their region, visiting students in their homes and engaging with students at Huinga Ako. A full drivers licence is required for this position.

It's an exciting time at Te Kura as we continue to innovate and transform the way we provide distance learning. In our online environment, we work with the latest technologies and are constantly growing in this space.

We're forward thinking and do things a little differently, but that doesn't mean no student contact! You'll interact with students at advisories, by doing some home visits and communicate with them using online tools.
