Physical Education New Zealand is on the hunt for an awesome physical educator to design and facilitate professional learning opportunities and provide advice and support to those working with students in Y9-13.

As physical education subject advisor (secondary) the type of work you’ll do involves:

  • Designing and facilitating professional learning opportunities for educators - online and kanohi ki te kanohi
  • Writing, reviewing, and developing resources and communications for Physical Education New Zealand
  • Providing advice and support via email, phone, and social media to school leaders and teachers
  • Supporting Physical Education New Zealand’s strategic priority work and contract work
  • Building relationships and networks with communities of educators, suppliers, and other stakeholders
  • Making sense of, and communicating, key changes in education, particularly the NCEA changes.

This is a wonderful opportunity to play a key role in a small team in a very successful organisation. The successful applicant can be based anywhere, but must be willing and able to travel around the country (including overnight trips) from time to time.

We’re looking for someone who

  • Is available to start in early 2022
  • Is a registered, qualified, and experienced teacher of secondary physical education in New Zealand (knowledge of classroom demands, professional requirements, pedagogy, and assessment)
  • Has an in-depth knowledge of the physical education curriculum
  • Is self-motivated and comfortable working independently
  • Is an effective collaborator, communicator, and group facilitator
  • Is a confident and effective trainer and presenter
  • Is resourceful – knows what tools, resources, sources of information, and services exist to support teachers
  • Is enthusiastic about helping teachers fulfil their potential
  • Is proactive, and a creative thinker and problem-solver
  • Is a highly competent user of technology (online meetings, word processing and spreadsheets, and other project planning tools).
