Are you a passionate educator who is ready for a new challenge? Look no further than us! Leaders of learning will work as part of our manukura (middle leadership), in conjunction with our deputy principals (Ngā Kākākura) to plan, develop and implement an innovative and responsive curriculum across Y9–13. Leaders of learning ensure curriculum development provides opportunities that give learners choice and agency, while still gaining the necessary skills and knowledge for life beyond school.

The leader of learning science will:

  • Have deep knowledge of the conceptual understandings and learning progressions required in science
  • Be able to support and deliver programmes for our diverse learners that require additional support or extension
  • Display evidence of expertise in specific areas of science teaching and learning across a variety of meaningful contexts
  • Create meaningful assessment opportunities which will provide students with meaningful feedback for feedforward
  • Maintain high standards of fair and equitable assessment practices across the learning area
  • Lead professional learning in both the learning area and school-wide
  • Seek student voice in the development and review of programmes of learning to ensure they are responsive and reflective of our learners
  • Purchase and maintain resources relating to the science learning area
  • Plan and implement health and safety procedures relevant to the teaching resources and spaces for the learning area. This may include providing training and support to staff outside of the learning area
  • Assist other staff to utilise the science resources and technology
  • Actively develop and maintain relationships with the leaders of learning across the school and with other schools
  • Actively contribute to extra-curricular programmes in the school as well as those relating to the science curriculum.

Our school is community focused and we encourage all staff to contribute to the varied learning opportunities that are offered to students in such an environment.
