Reporting to the curator, learning, we are seeking an educator that can inspire visitors through engaging, innovative learning experiences - bringing to life Hundertwasser's vision and shared synergies with Mātauranga Māori, and the Whangārei Art Museum.

The position could be full or part-time for the right applicant.

About the role: 

  • Work with the curator, learning, the Wairau Māori Art Gallery’s appointed Kaitiaki, Te Ringa Hautū Toi and curators across the Hātea Art Precinct to contribute to our onsite and online learning programmes.
  • Facilitate the delivery of innovative, engaging learning experiences with a particular focus on engaging primary school students and their teachers.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of informal learning experiences at the Hātea Art Precinct’s galleries, such as school holiday and other public programmes.
  • Use Hātea Art Precinct’s collections and exhibitions, Hundertwasser’s art, architecture and ecological philosophies to research and develop high quality content, interpretation and delivery of our learning experiences.
  • Ensure learning programmes and experiences honour Hundertwasser’s legacy and recognise and emphasise synergies between Hundertwasser's holistic philosophy and the Māori notion of the interconnectedness and interdependence. 
  • Ensure learning programmes align with the New Zealand Curriculum and Ministry of Education expectations.
  • Facilitate LEOTC tender and ensure administration requirements are met and accurate where applicable.
  • Ensure learning experiences honour Aotearoa New Zealand’s biculturalism and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, The Treaty of Waitangi.

About you: 

  • Bachelor of Education/Graduate Diploma in Teaching required or equivalent work experience. Additional qualifications in Art History or Fine Arts would be advantageous. 
  • An engaging communicator, skilled at connecting diverse audiences with a range of art.
  • Proven experience delivering high quality, innovative arts education programmes 
  • Possess or be prepared to develop some capability in basic communication within Māori contexts and demonstrate sensitivity to the applications and use of Te Reo.
