Healthy active learning is a collaborative wellbeing initiative between Sport New Zealand and the Ministries of Health and Education. Healthy active learning supports schools and kura across Aotearoa to improve the wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi through healthy eating and drinking, and quality physical activity. 

Sport Canterbury is seeking a healthy active learning regional lead with a track record of leading and empowering others to join our team in January 2022.

The healthy active learning regional lead will be responsible for leading and managing the effective scoping, design, and implementation of the healthy active learning initiative across our region. This includes leading and managing a high performing team of facilitators and community connectors, as well as managing and satisfying stakeholder (government agencies, regional sport, health and recreation bodies, schools and kura, and invested partners of Sport Canterbury) expectations and requirements.

The role will support school leaders and teachers to better plan and implement the HPE and hauora curriculum, identify and develop opportunities for quality physical activity experiences for tamariki (in school and in the community), and advise on how to establish healthy behaviours and environments. Leading internal alignment, integration, and championing collaboration of healthy active learning and other tamariki focused initiatives within Sport Canterbury is essential.

As the regional lead you will have:

  • Experience in strategically leading the design and implementation of medium to large scale projects that operate across multiple settings
  • Knowledge of the systems, structures and operating models that underpin the education, sport, active recreation and play sectors across Aotearoa
  • Exceptional relationship building and interpersonal skills, accompanied by a high level of emotional and social intelligence
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of effective pedagogical strategies, specifically, culturally responsive and active pedagogies
  • Experience in working in schools and/or kura
  • Experience in designing and facilitating professional learning and development opportunities.
