We are a rural kura situated between Paeroa and Te Aroha located on State Highway 26, R.D. 3 Paeroa. Our kura has a strong tikanga Māori focus and fosters biculturalism. With 97% of our ākonga who are of Māori descent, we are a school of choice for our whānau. The majority of tamāriki affiliate to our local iwi, Ngāti Hako and Ngāti Tamaterā, with direct connections to Tirohia marae, Paeahi marae and Pai-o-Hauraki marae.
Our school’s vision is to grow Equity, Excellence and Belonging. Our expectations are expressed as: Mahi Tahi, Whanaungatanga, Tuākana-Teina, Manākitanga, Kaitiakitanga, Ako, and Kotahitanga. Together our expectations grow our Tirohia MANA which are highly visible in our school's culture.
Our kura requires someone who is sufficient with sound teaching skills in a composite Tuākana class (Y5–8) and have good understanding of the NZ curriculum. The ability to work closely with the tumuaki in the processes of planning and assessment is essential, as is strength in classroom management. A record of consistency of teaching practice and the ability to relate to all tamāriki and kaiako is expected. The ideal applicant would have been immersed in PB4L training, a passion to learn about Huakina Mai as an initiative, be familiar with Ka Hikitia and the implementation of Tātaiako within the classroom.
If you are someone who is open to learning and making a positive change, knows how to make learning fun, organically authentic, meaningful and engaging for ALL tamāriki to experience success, kei a koe te wā – your time is now!
