The Ministry of Education is seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced candidates to be Chair of the New Appointments National Panel (NANP).

This panel of independent education advisers provides assurance that applicants for Kāhui Ako (Communities of Learning) roles have met the relevant national criteria. It also provides assurance to school boards seeking to offer the Principal Recruitment Allowance that applicants have met the relevant national criteria.

The NANP Chair oversees the operation and effectiveness of the panel and supports members to build consistency in their judgments. The Chair also draws on the experiences and analysis of the practice of the national panel to provide feedback to the wider education system to support improvement in the quality of appointments.

Candidates are expected to have extensive credibility and experience in the New Zealand education sector.

Candidates must also demonstrate a number of the following attributes:

  • Experience on similar review and/or assessment panels;
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective teaching and professional leadership, including productive collaboration and inquiry practices that lead to improved student outcomes
  • Experience in moderating judgments within an education context
  • A record of successful leadership in the education sector
  • Successful experience/practice in improving outcomes for children and young people, in particular Māori, Pasifika, students with special education needs, and students from low socio-economic backgrounds
  • Clear communication skills, adjust style to suit audience, and articulates evidence based position thinking
  • Proven culturally responsive practice and understanding of te Tiriti o Waitangi and Treaty of Waitangi principles.
