Volunteer Service Abroad has an exciting opportunity to remotely support Science teachers in Papua New Guinea. This is a flexible, part time e-volunteering assignment for 4 months. Start and end dates are flexible, depending on when a volunteer is selected.

The Assignment

This is an e-volunteer assignment working from home. The volunteer will support the East New Britain Provincial Government remotely and will be based in New Zealand. The goal of this assignment is to improve knowledge of pedagogical strategies and subject matter expertise amongst science teachers in secondary schools in and around East New Britain. Improving the quality of teaching in schools is one of the division’s major priorities because science education and strong science skills are of critical importance for good jobs in the 21st century. By working closely with science teachers, the volunteer will mentor, support, advise and guide them in improving their teaching practices.

The volunteer

We are looking for a qualified teacher with extensive experience teaching science in a secondary school context. As capacity building is a core component of all our assignments, the ability to mentor, coach and support the professional development of teachers is imperative.

Why You'll Love It

This is an exciting opportunity to utilise your science teaching background to make a difference to an entire generation of young Papua New Guineans- without leaving the comfort of your own home. You'll develop long-lasting and meaningful relationships with your fellow teachers, learn about the customs and cultures of Papua New Guinea and have the flexibility to volunteer at a time and pace that suits you. All volunteers are supported throughout their journey by the wider VSA team.
