Christchurch Hospital Activity Room is a vital part of our children’s recovery.
Play in hospital helps children and young people understand, cope with illness, regain confidence and express their feelings. Working with children from birth to 16 years, your experience as a teacher will be invaluable to helping children during their hospital stay.
As a hospital play specialist you will establish rapport with the children and their family and play alongside them to build trust. Through these relationships you attempt to minimise the psychological impact on the child while in hospital. A huge part of the role is integrating emotional support through preparation and play aiming to improve the child’s ability to cope. This is a very challenging but rewarding role. Working with families/whānau is critical to your success in this role so your natural ability to form great relationships will be vital. This role involves working in the Activity Room, working on the paediatric wards and working within a multi-disciplinary team.
We are looking preferably for an experienced registered hospital play specialist to come join our fun team for a fixed-term, full-time placement from this September until September 2022 however if you are an experienced registered early childhood teacher and you have the skills and attributes we are looking for and are willing to work towards becoming a registered hospital play specialist then please apply on the link below.
