Te Kura is New Zealand's largest state school with a roll of up to 24,000 ākonga, up to 45% of whom are Māori. We provide distance education from early childhood level to NCEA Level 3, including to young adult and adult learners. We are a Big Picture inspired school as reflected in Te Ara Pounamu, our local Big Picture curriculum document.

Our vision is for our ākonga (students) to achieve their educational and personal goals, enabling them to participate effectively as members of their communities. That means putting our ākonga at the centre of their learning by providing a flexible, personalised approach, so that they can choose when and where they learn.  Ki te tī, ki te tā, ki te katoa – Anytime, anywhere, anyone.

Te Mātanga o te Marau (Mātauranga Māori Lead) is a new role in the curriculum team. This role presents an exciting opportunity for an inspired educator to influence equal status for mātauranga Māori through the design of inclusive learning resources for ākonga. The role also contributes to Te Kura's strategic priority of becoming a bilingual organisation and includes coordination of the te reo Māori translation and interpretation service and overview of professional learning to build teacher responsiveness to ākonga Māori.

The successful candidate will be motivated by the desire to achieve excellent and equitable outcomes for ākonga Māori, with exceptional communication skills and the proven ability to innovate, problem-solve and achieve goals.

You will be fluent in te reo Māori, both written and oral. You will have proven experience in connecting effectively with ākonga Māori, iwi, hapu whānau and hapori.

Teaching qualification and experience in curriculum design and delivery is required as well as a current practising certificate or the ability to qualify for one.
