Waste is now a mainstream environmental and sustainability challenge for all New Zealand – affecting us at home and at work. We have a challenging target to reduce waste to landfill by one third by 2026, and engaging our residents is a critical element in achieving this.

We have a great opportunity available in our Waste Operations unit for a waste educator.

In this role, you'll be educating and empowering our customers, communities and stakeholders around waste reduction – primarily in schools and other education providers. You will schedule and deliver programmes which inspire and encourage behaviour change among students in our city.

There will be a strong emphasis on establishing and maintaining strong and effective partnerships.

This is a key role assisting with one of the Council's highest priorities, so we need someone who is passionate about sustainability, and has a proven track record working with people (especially young people) to engage and inspire them.

You'll bring:

  • Experience developing and delivering innovative education programmes
  • The ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills
  • Sound knowledge of waste management and minimisation initiatives

We are also looking for you to have experience and understanding of education in New Zealand, as well as marketing skills to help promote the programme.

You'll join a team of equally committed people, with the opportunity to learn and develop.
