The Secondary Tertiary team sits within the Early Learning and Student Achievement Group (ELSA).
ELSA works to make learning and teaching relevant, real and valued. We deliver and maintain critical services for the education sector to support responsive learner pathways from early childhood into further education, training, the workforce and society. ELSA performs a crucial role working between the strategy and policy teams, and the sector facing functions. The Secondary Tertiary team is responsible for operational policy, curriculum and support programmes for Y11–13 learners, the secondary-tertiary interface. This includes senior secondary curriculum, NCEA (including the ongoing NCEA Review and preparing for the Review of Achievement Standards) and secondary-tertiary programmes.
The senior advisor, Ākonga Māori provides a Te Ao Māori lens on concurrent programmes, contributing to designing and developing curriculum, teaching, and learning initiatives for senior secondary education to support a smooth transition to further education and the world of work. They advise on policy, from design through to implementation, and on the design and delivery of curriculum and assessment content. Senior advisers ensure a deliberate focus on equitable student achievement is maintained by providing thought leadership and guidance in English and Māori medium education.
The person we seek will be agile and adept at handling ambiguity and complexity. Our ideal candidate will take pride in producing high quality work, be able to work collaboratively, research and analyse to provide advice to managers and others in the Ministry and will be comfortable working independently to achieve defined objectives.
Candidates will ideally have the following:
Experience with Māori whānau, hapū, iwi and communities and relationships with Māori based professional or recognised organisations and groups
A tertiary qualification or minimum years' experience in a similar role.
