He Manu Hou (meaning 'a new fledgling, ready to fly') was established as a result of the Māori community identifying the need to keep te reo alive in South Canterbury. It is a bilingual early childhood centre where pre-schoolers learn in te reo Māori and English.

Our ideal candidate is a qualified ECE professional who brings a genuine passion for bilingual practice. Knowledge of te reo and tikanga Māori would be preferred, however if not a speaker of te reo, the strong desire, willingness, and capability to learn are key to succeeding in this role.

Key duties:

  • Communicating and relating positively with tamariki, whānau and other kaiako within a bilingual environment
  • Designing and delivering engaging learning experiences for tamariki from 0 to 5 years
  • Incorporating te reo Māori into everyday conversations, teaching and learning experiences
  • Writing detailed learning stories using a computer
  • Participating in regular meetings and training opportunities, both internal and external
  • Contributing to the creation of a welcoming and safe learning environment for tamariki and their whānau.

  • Early Childhood Education qualification
  • Current teaching registration and police vetting
  • Desire to work in a Kaupapa Māori organisation
  • Passion for and understanding of Te Ao Māori
  • Strong computer skills.

This is a rare opportunity to join Timaru’s only bilingual early childhood education centre at an exciting time as they move into a new phase with new goals and aspirations. Become part of that journey as their next kaiako reorua.

We are also looking for relievers to join our pool.

Please supply cover letter and CV, plus a 1-minute video introduction – this could include your mihi, a snapshot of your interest in the role, or anything you would like to tell us about yourself!
