Southern Institute of Technology Limited is a well-recognised provider of tertiary vocational training, offering a comprehensive range of programmes that lead to formal qualifications. We currently have a vacancy for a qualified and experienced person to deliver teaching and learning pedagogical support to the institution's academic staff and academic operations. The delivery of these services aims to enhance teaching consistency across the organisation and facilitate staff development and training.

The successful applicant will hold a bachelor's degree in Education (Teaching), or similar, preferably NZCATT Level 5, and current registration with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand will be desirable. Ideally, you will have more than two years of recent classroom practice experience and working knowledge of the Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool (LNAAT), preferably in the tertiary education sector.

Key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • ‘Hoake’, SIT’s culturally responsive practice programme
  • Embedded literacy and numeracy (Level 1–3 programmes)
  • Teaching observations (Review of Teaching and Learning Practice)
  • Induction – teaching and learning
  • Mentoring/advice and guidance
  • Staff training and development
  • Supporting staff to gain adult and tertiary training qualifications
  • Moderation
  • Committee representation
  • ‘Te Awa Rau’ Māori tauira mentoring
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Superior interpersonal skills are required as the role requires working with staff across various disciplines to review and strengthen the organisation's capacity in education provision. In addition, you will have high degree of IT literacy, attention to detail, a working knowledge of te reo Māori me nga tikanga Māori, a sound knowledge of ‘best practice’: teaching, learning, assessment, and moderation, a working knowledge of, and ability to implement, culturally responsive practice in education, an ability to demonstrate self-reflective practice, and commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti O Waitangi.
