Support communication and contribute to our Arahunga Specialist Services Team
Maternity cover: music therapy or speech and language therapy
Our organisation spans across the Lower North Island. In the Whanganui Region we have a vibrant team of specialists who are passionate about making a difference to the wellbeing and education of students who have a wide range of learning, behavioural and physical needs. Our current specialist team comprises: occupational therapist, physiotherapist, music therapist, and speech and language therapist. They focus on supporting ORS students to access their individualised learning programmes through assessment and analysis, providing intervention plans and reviewing outcomes. The scope of collaboration is with whanau, teachers, teacher aides, health practitioners and disability agencies, in order to access equipment and resources relevant to each students’ needs.
As a result of maternity leave and demand for our service, we are seeking expressions of interest from music therapists and speech and language therapists. A therapist with the knowledge of the education setting or an understanding of Hanan strategies would be an advantage. We have a strong focus on being communication partners for our students, so an understanding of intensive interaction and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is helpful. We are able to mentor and coach therapists that are new to the profession and have annual speech and language therapy trainees. We also have a local network if you require additional work.
There is a fixed-term, part-time position available in the Whanganui Region, supporting students within our local host schools. You will need to be a registered therapist, have a driver's licence and a current New Zealand practicing certificate.
