At Island Bay Childcare we believe he waka eke noa (we’re all in this together) and we are welcoming and supportive of everyone in our centre whanau. As a family owned centre, we have been part of our local community for the past 9 years and value our Island Bay connections. We nurture the babies and children in our care, and believe in providing plenty of opportunities for laughter, friendship, and learning.

Due to an up-coming extension of our under 2 year old licence, we are seeking a co-room leader, full-time (40 hours p/w) to join our classroom for our babies aged 6 months to two years. You will be joining a stable, warm and responsive team of teachers working collaboratively to support the youngest members of our Island Bay Childcare whanau.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be a trained ECE & registered teacher
  • Have experience and a passion for working with infants and toddlers
  • Have excellent leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be a kind, empathetic and responsive teacher and leader.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the day-to-day routines and organisation of the room in conjunction with the other room leader
  • Supporting and inspiring a motivated team
  • Ensuring the philosophy of the centre is supported and upheld, through a holistic approach to children’s learning and development and in line with Te Whāriki.
  • Ensure compliance with and implementation of policies and procedures and Early Childhood Regulations
  • Working collaboratively with your manager and other room leaders to support the centre community.

We support our leadership team through an established a leadership development programme based on the Teaching Council's leadership strategy. This includes professional learning and development training, mentoring, networking and exploring research.

If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you and discuss this opportunity further.
