As the ministry embarks on the review of achievement standards as part of the NCEA Review, the senior secondary team needs to bring on new leaders to join the existing team. Lead secondary advisors, will be responsible for leading several subject expert groups to develop the complete suite of products required for the review of achievement standards over a 5-year process. In addition, they will also contribute to designing and developing curriculum, teaching and learning initiatives for senior secondary education to support a smooth transition to further education and the world of work. They will ensure focus on student achievement is maintained by providing thought leadership and guidance in senior secondary education.

About the person:

We are looking for experienced leaders who have expertise in pedagogical practice within the secondary sector and who understand assessment methodology.

The person we seek will be agile and adept at handling ambiguity and complexity. Our ideal candidate will take pride in producing high quality work, be a skilled facilitator and will be comfortable working independently to achieve defined objectives. Sensitivity to cultural values and a good understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi is a must.

They will have sharp interpersonal skills, superior writing skills, and will be comfortable working with a diverse range of stakeholders and representing the Ministry.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Candidates must be experienced middle or senior leaders in secondary schools
  • Candidates must have current or recent teacher registration.

This is a unique opportunity to work closely with sector experts, developing and implementing the new achievement standards over the next 5 years. Positions will be commencing 25 January 2021.
