We are an independent Anglican secondary school situated in Hamilton. Tihoi Venture School is our Y10 residential outdoor campus situated on the western side of Lake Taupo. Students are involved in community living, academic study and outdoor pursuits over their six-month stay. Tihoi has been in operation for over 40 years and is a well-established centre with passionate staff and purpose-built facilities.
Tihoi Venture School operates a holistic approach to education. The students complete an academic, outdoor and social education programme. The outdoor environment is used to enhance the teaching of both academic and social skills. The academic programme is integrated where possible and students achieve a number of level one NCEA credits while at the school.
While at Tihoi, students complete four tramps, a survival exercise, two solo exercises, flat and moving water kayaking, canoeing, sailing, rock climbing, high and low ropes course activities, sea kayaking, caving, alpine and an expedition.
We are looking to appoint a head of academics, who will be a registered and qualified teacher (who is able to teach Y10 English, maths, science or social science) who will have the responsibility for leading the academic programme at Tihoi. As with all roles at our Tihoi campus, it is expected that the successful candidate will also have a strong interest in outdoor education, preferably with NZOIA or equivalent qualifications in one or more of the disciplines mentioned.
Reporting to the Tihoi Director and part of the Tihoi leadership team, this is a permanent, full-time role. Tihoi is a well-established centre with passionate staff and purpose-built facilities. All staff live onsite (with their families) in provided accommodation and make a full commitment to the co-curricular and pastoral care of the students.
This position will ideally commence in January 2021.
Family accommodation provided.
