The RT:Lit will be based at Hastings Central School and will be employed by the board of trustees of that school to work in an itinerant role on behalf of a designated cluster of schools in the area.

Purpose of the position

The role of the RT:Lit is to provide itinerant, specialised, accelerated literacy support for Y0–8 students who are at risk of failing to learn to read and write and for their teachers.

The role will include modelling and demonstrating effective practices, strategies, or techniques for teachers, running workshops in schools and across the cluster, teaching children directly, and in small groups, so that:

  • Children receive appropriate and accelerated literacy programmes on an ongoing basis
  • Teachers develop and grow their pedagogy to meet the needs of their learners
  • Children’s literacy gains are maintained over time.
