Rarely does an opportunity like this arise.

We are a thriving and aspirational country school with a lot of heart, strong community support and a focus on modern learning. Nestled between the Tararua Ranges and Waitarere Beach, we offer lifestyle and an innovative environment. With a series of successful ERO reports and modern facilities, our learning environment in a country setting is hard to beat!

We’re looking for an innovative, proactive, and inspirational leader with great management and communication skills, who can ensure the best results for our 120 tamariki, staff, and community.

You will bring a demonstrable record of managing, coaching, and developing staff, which could come from a mixture of backgrounds in senior positions, be it primary or secondary school, or relevant business.

A visionary thinker, you will be passionate about sustainability and will relish the outdoor uniqueness of the school. You will be visible, approachable, charismatic, and an ambassador for our school for current and new families.

Our principal will have a strong moral compass and continue developing a culture of pride and wellbeing in the school. Committed and driven to see all students thrive and excel in all life areas – wellbeing, academic, social, and emotional.

The Poroutawhao community is actively proud of its near century-long traditions yet is also committed to preparing students for the future.

We are looking for a leader with:

  • Sound leadership and management skills
  • Innovative thinking in curriculum development
  • A commitment to genuinely student-centred, culturally responsive practice
  • A commitment to te ao Māori
  • Knowledge and experience of emerging pedagogies.

Our Board is forward-thinking, student-centred and will provide strong support for the school leader.

Established in 1924, our school has been part of the community for nearly 100 years. We have strong links with Waitarere, local iwi Ngati Huia ki Poroutawhao and the surrounding farming district.
