Key responsibilities

  • Supporting schools (kaiako, tumuaki, etc) throughout SWKA with local tikanga/reo and Wairarapatanga
  • Lead learning of te reo Māori me ona tīkanga in Kaitiaki Academy in collaboration with ASLs
  • Support students with their projects and leading Kaitiaki Academy learning in their own schools
  • Co-construction of KA strategic vision with the Hapū / Iwi roopu, 
  • Design a programme for 2020 and 2021, comms and coordinate with the WSL and ASL, 
  • Plan a symposium 2020 and 2021 
  • Lead the Kaitiaki Academy into School Programme with ASL, WSL and kaitautoko
  • Leads the branding alongside of the SWKA, 
  • Plan and organise a noho
  • Collaborating with kaiwhakahaere to plan the agreed teachings of the roopu hapū/iwi

Key tasks

  • To design, plan and implement lessons and activities in line with the direction of the roopu iwi for Kaitiaki Academy and 
  • Attending each school across the South Wairarapa to lead learning
  • Planning and leading professional development

Key skills

  • A New Zealand teaching degree or diploma, or relevant experience
  • Must have a good understanding of the South Wairarapa hapū and their communities
  • Must have a relationship with Ngati Kahungunu ki Wairarapa and Rangitāne or the ability to quickly establish a good relationship with them
  • Must have the ability to teach both adults and tamariki
  • Knowledge of or skill in second language acquisition pedagogies, methodologies or approaches preferred e.g.Te Ataarangi

Projects for 2021

  • Matariki celebration for South Wairarapa in collaboration with Kaiwhakahaere
  • Other projects including a written curriculum/programme for 2020 & 2021, a noho and a symposium.
