We are looking for an inspiring, student-centred leader to join our senior leadership team from the beginning of term 4. The successful applicant will have an indepth understanding of effective teaching and learning for students with special educational needs in a specialist teaching setting. They will have an extensive understanding of current pedagogy and advancements in special education. They will lead a culturally responsive environment that encourages collaboration and innovative thinking. Current leadership experience, strengths in pastoral care and student management, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences both orally and in writing are essential. A good sense of humour is a must.

This exceptional leader will:

  • Be a creative and confident IT user
  • Foster an environment where each child’s individual learning and care needs are catered for and will be based on a team approach
  • Lead a team of educators who just don’t teach but engage and motivate the learner
  • Encourage teachers to continually improve and align with up-to-date innovations in special education
  • Value parents/caregivers as a child’s first teacher and ensure that their knowledge and understanding of their child is promoted
  • Encourage parents/caregivers involvement in their child’s education
  • Support the transition of the child from home to school and from class to class
  • Will have the ability to lead and support change in a large special school with a diverse staff and community
  • Proven positive relationships with external agencies to maximise student opportunities
  • Effectively support the principal, the Board of Trustees and the school’s direction.

We believe this role is pivotal to supporting the continuing successful image and culture of the school. The successful leader would need to have a passion for teaching and learning in a special school setting.
