This is a unique opportunity to join a team of professionals who lead from the heart in an environment where tamariki flourish. Our nursery has a roll of 8 infants and toddlers with a ratio that fluctuates between 1:3 and 1:4.

Key responsibilities:

  • To work in partnership with whānau to provide a loving, responsive and engaging environment which supports the learning and development of tamariki
  • To support a sense of belonging and to guide the social and emotional development of infants, toddlers and tamariki through manakitanga within a calm, unhurried environment where uninterrupted play is strongly valued
  • To plan for and prepare an environment that sparks a sense of wonder, imagination and fun and provokes curiosity and exploration
  • To share about tamariki wellbeing and social and emotional development through conversations, written documentation, kaiako and whānau meetings
  • To embrace the centre virtues of love, kindness, peace, compassion and unity and work from the heart in a spirit of shared leadership and collaboration with fellow kaiako
  • A commitment to self-awareness and self-growth, whilst maintaining a strong sense of wellbeing and resilience.

Skills/experience/qualification:

  • Registered early childhood teacher
  • Diploma of Teaching (ECE) or Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (early childhood)
  • Current first aid certificate
  • Relevant experience in an early childhood setting, including a passion for supporting the learning and development of infants and toddlers
  • Sound knowledge of child development
  • Sound knowledge of Te Whāriki
  • Some understanding of RIE and Pikler approach would be an advantage
  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in relation to care and education of infants and toddlers
  • Proven ability to foster strong and respectful relationships with children and whānau from diverse backgrounds and to work as part of a close, collaborative team.
