Are you an experienced early years teacher, support worker, or youth facilitator?
Do you have a background in child development and a creative streak?
Are you looking for a new challenge and to extend your scope of practice?
Our service has a vision to provide children, young people and their whānau with considered opportunities for play, learning and holistic development. Our aim is to support the well-being and strengthen the resilience of tamariki and Rangitahi during their hospital journey.
We have permanent roles available (both full-time and part-time) to join the team as a play specialist at Starship Children’s Hospital. With a strong educational and psycho-social framework, we facilitate children’s continued development and their ability to cope successfully with challenges related to their hospitalisation.
You may find us normalising the hospital environment in a play space, familiarising children with medical equipment or procedures, or developing and practicing coping strategies in a treatment room. This is challenging – but hugely rewarding to work with tamariki, rangitahi, their whānau, and the wider multidisciplinary team!
These roles will require initiative, the ability to form relationships quickly, and to think on your feet. You will be someone who embraces diversity, thrives on challenges, be responsive to children of varying ages and families from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Although an ECE teaching background and current registration with the Teaching Council is highly desirable, we will also consider applicants with experience and qualifications in related fields that involve working with children and families under stress, with a wide range of ages, ethnicities, youth or children with diverse needs.
