We are looking for early learning teachers (a mix of beginner and experienced kaiako) to provide professional curriculum, pedagogy and practice that ensures excellent care and education for children through professional relationships and engagement in all aspects of teaching and learning with fellow teachers, management and whānau, to support the successful operation of the centre in a way which aligns with YMCA mission, purpose and values.

Specifically this includes ensuring the centre is:

  • Child-centred
  • Reflective of our family and community values
  • Nurturing and welcoming
  • Maximising enrolment levels by being responsive to community need
  • Delivering the Te Whāriki curriculum effectively
  • Meeting all relevant codes of practice and standards as per teacher registration and YMCA policies and procedures
  • Working as collaborative team members.

It also requires all teaching staff to be able to work across all age groups in the centre and be flexible around rostered time in ratio and in release.

Our ideal candidates will have:

  • Early childhood teaching qualification recognised by the Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand (or primary school teaching qualification)
  • Current Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand practising certificate
  • Current first aid certificate
  • The legal right to work in New Zealand
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enthusiasm, energy and a focus on working with young children in an ever changing environment
  • The ability to cope with change and the demands of a busy early learning education centre
  • The ability to respond effectively to the diverse language and cultural experiences of individuals and groups of learners
  • Professional integrity, positivity and ethical behaviour.
