Do you have a passion for history or education? Do you want to help bring the Waipā District's heritage alive for school students? The Te Awamutu Museum is looking for a passionate, creative and motivated individual to join our team as an education facilitator.

Surrounded by locations of cultural, historical and environmental significance, Te Awamutu Museum is kaitiaki to some of New Zealand's richest heritage, and we are committed to enhancing awareness and understanding of the history that has shaped the district and its communities.

For more information about the projects our team is working on, please visit: www.waipadc.govt.nz/your-waipa/majorprojects/waipa-discovery-centre and tearawai.nz

The education facilitator role is key to helping Waipā share its story by developing, delivering and promoting curriculum-based programmes for primary and secondary school students, utilising a range of learning resources such as the museum's exhibitions, collections and the heritage sites located throughout the district. The Te Awamutu Museum is a small team so the key to our success is our ability to pull together and all contribute to a wide variety of projects.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • A strong knowledge of New Zealand history, particularly in regard to the New Zealand Land Wars
  • A good understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Tikanga Māori and excellent pronunciation of te reo Māori
  • Excellent communication, planning and presenting capabilities
  • The ability to use technology confidently
  • The energy, enthusiasm and confidence to drive and run successful programmes independently.

A teaching qualification/teaching experience is desirable but not essential – the right candidate could come from a wide variety of backgrounds. An understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum would be beneficial.
