Not your typical teaching position...

We require a qualified and registered early childhood teacher looking for a new challenge and to extend their scope of practice.

Tauranga Hospital Play Service provides a comprehensive therapeutic play, education and support programme for infants, children and young people in the hospital.

Hospital play specialists provide teaching and learning opportunities based on the early childhood curriculum to facilitate children’s continued development and their ability to cope successfully with the challenges related to hospitalisation.

You will need to have initiative, be able to form relations with children and families quickly, enjoy challenge diversity, have excellent communication skills and be responsive to children of varying ages and families from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds.

The position is for 15–20 hours per week with days to be negotiated.

A minimum qualification of a Dip Tch (ECE) and a current practising certificate is essential.

The successful applicant will either hold current registration as a hospital play specialist or will be required to undertake training towards gaining registration in a defined timeframe.

We are a friendly supportive team who welcome the skills a new team member can bring.

At BOPDHB, our values of Compassion, All-one-team, Responsive and Excellence are at the centre of everything we do. We use values-based recruitment to help us recruit people who share our values, as we know this makes a positive difference to job satisfaction and the experience of our patients and their families/whānau.
