In July 2020, van Asch Deaf Education Centre and Kelston Deaf Education Centre  will merge to create one new national organisation, supporting more than 2000 deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) learners nationwide. As the head of early years and service development, this national leadership role provides you a unique opportunity to make a positive difference for DHH learners while taking the next step in your career.

You will be responsible for providing direction and national leadership to team leaders within this service. They support their direct reports to lift student academic and wellbeing outcomes. This also includes the development and management of systems and processes that underpin effective work practice and reporting. This role requires a systems approach to change, whilst working in partnership with families/whānau, staff, and external stakeholders.

This role is open to applications throughout New Zealand, and the primary location is negotiable.

Professional competencies:

  • Tertiary qualification in education
  • Qualification in early childhood or at primary level (desirable)
  • Experience and expertise in developing a service for early childhood learners and managing transition processes
  • Experience within deaf and hard of hearing or special education settings, with an awareness of deaf culture and the deaf community
  • Knowledge of the New Zealand education sector
  • Leads the organisation’s guiding principles of ‘Grow, Excel, Choose and Belong’
  • Is motivated to develop a world leading service for deaf and hard of hearing learners and whānau
  • Demonstrates principles of equity and access in action
