Kaiako / teacher
The Otago University Childcare Association is an association of 5 purpose-built centres on the university campus. After 21 years of being at Rōpu Tiaki Tamaiti/College centre, one of our wonderful teachers is retiring. This means a position will exist for a teacher/kaiako. College is one of our mixed centres with a maximum of 32 children, including 10 U2s. The position is predominantly working with children U2 however being a truly mixed-age centre means we recognise the value of akō and therefore tuakana-teina is valued and supported.
College, like all of our centres, offers ratios of 1:4 and 1:8 in a diverse, predominantly university community. We are looking for a qualified and registered ECE teacher whose commitment to high-quality teaching is evident in their practice.
We’re looking for a team member who is an enthusiastic participant in teaching and learning, has evidence of being an active reflective practitioner, is able to establish respectful and supportive relationships with diverse whānau, children and teachers, has strengths in te reo and tikanga Māori and has a philosophical commitment to mixed-age teaching. We can offer mentoring for registration, extensive collegial and professional support and a fantastic work environment. Teaching in a large association also allows for long-term professional growth as long-term there is an opportunity to teach in a variety of centres, all of which offer different education settings and environments.
