We are seeking a highly capable learning support coordinator, who will work collaboratively as part of a strong and cohesive, inclusive learning team. This is a permanent position, based at St Mary's Catholic School, but supports the needs of all the children and young people across Aquinas College (Tauranga), St Mary’s Catholic School (Tauranga), St Thomas More Catholic School (Mt Maunganui) and St Joseph’s Catholic School (Opotiki). The successful applicant will be supportive of the Catholic character of our schools, have exceptional interpersonal skills, a solutions-focused understanding of a wide range of students' additional needs, and a creative vision for this exciting new role.

The learning support coordinator will work to build the learning support capability of kaiako/teachers, and to help identify and plan for the learning support needs of all the children and young people across our schools. This is a coordinating role but requires the incumbent to be an experienced teacher in order to know how to engage with kaiako/teachers to support the development of their practice in working with children and young people with a range of learning support needs. No learning support experience is necessary but will be considered an advantage. An empathy and understanding for all learners and their whānau is a requirement of the position.

This role is a new position and is based on the current government initiative: conversation.education.govt.nz/assets/LSC/Learning-Support-Coordinator-Role-Description.pdf

The role will be developed in more detail with the other successful applicants from Aquinas College. We are committed as a school to represent the position and role in the way it has been designed and proposed. To finalise the detailed position description, we will utilise the strengths and knowledge of each successful applicant.
