Requires an experienced, exciting, flexible person, who has a strong belief in why he/she is a teacher. A person who can demonstrate this in his/her daily teaching.

Te Ahurutanga is our bilingual whānau. We have 3 classes, Y0–2, Y3–4 and Y5–6.

The Tirohanga o Te Ahurutanga is, ‘Whiringa nga pou kia angitu ai’ – The intertwining of pou ensures success.

The pou that are referred to, were developed through consultation and are: 

Whanaungatanga

  • Model our school rule of ‘We look after each other’ in all areas of school life
  • Have strong and positive behaviour management which fits with our school's focus on trauma-informed practice
  • Will actively contribute to the corporate life of our school
  • Ability to work positively with whānau and colleagues. 

Hihiko

  • Have the ability to work collaboratively within a bilingual setting with kaupapa Māori at the forefront of all practice
  • Have a sound knowledge of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and the NZ Curriculum
  • The ability to teach anywhere in our school if required and able to implement programmes that build on student strengths
  • An understanding of play-based pedagogy and a willingness to practise these principles.

Mātauranga Māori

  • Be committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Have knowledge of the hapū and Iwi of our kura
  • Have a sound understanding of Māori pedagogy
  • Be competent with te reo Māori at level 2 – 51–80%. 

Rangatiratanga

  • Demonstrate a commitment to kaupapa Māori and support colleagues in developing their own knowledge
  • Be willing to undertake PD using this learning to reflect on current practice. 

Extracurricular life of the school. The things you do in your current school, over and above classroom teacher responsibility e.g. chess, sport, breakfast club.

PLUS

Any other specific curriculum strengths/experience. 

Must be able to demonstrate above, with evidence that the person is practising these currently.
