An experienced New Zealand registered teacher with successful literacy teaching experience is required to work as an itinerant RT Lit with ākonga/learners in Y0–8. Your 3 referees must be able to attest to your passion for and expertise in teaching literacy. The start date is term 1, 2020, and a driver’s licence and vehicle are essential. The base school is Marton Junction School.

In summary, the successful candidate must have the ability to:

  • Assess and analyse an ākonga/learner’s literacy needs and then design an individual literacy learning plan for that ākonga/learner
  • Quickly establish, and then maintain, positive relationships with schools, staff, whānau and especially ākonga/learners
  • Work with ākonga/learners from a myriad of cultural backgrounds
  • Produce comprehensive reports to the Ministry of Education, RT Lit Management Committee and Cluster Schools
  • Regularly check in with the ākonga/learners’ teachers keeping them updated on progress and providing support where needed
  • Report to parents on the progress that the ākonga/learner is making in the programme
  • Set high expectations for self in terms of raising achievement for priority learners.
