We are a specialist residential school located in Christchurch, New Zealand. The school was a finalist in the 2019 PM’s Excellence in Education Awards.
We are looking for an experienced teacher who is passionate about bringing out the best in challenging students and is energised by giving young people opportunities for success. We offer a 24-hour 7-day-a-week curriculum which is supported by specialist resources, individualised programmes and highly trained staff, all in a stable and nurturing environment. Students benefit from a differentiated and adaptive curriculum. They have extensive opportunities to participate and succeed in the school and wider community. The curriculum is specifically designed to balance academic learning and living skills, and to significantly enhance students’ social and emotional competencies. The school curriculum and vision are both focused on supporting students to independently reintegrate into their community.
The successful applicant will have strengths and experience in:
Working with small groups of young people aged 8–18 who present complex needs, and challenging behaviour
Working collaboratively with teams supporting individual students
Developing and overseeing individual educational programmes focusing on readiness to learn, literacy, numeracy and social skills.
Desirable, but not essential abilities in any one or combination of the following:
An ability and willingness to keep student laptops and i-Pads maintained and updated as required and source digital resources that would enhance student learning
An ability to support students wanting to develop their musical interests (singing, guitar, piano, drums)
An ability to be flexible around responsibilities across a range of roles: classroom teacher, release teacher, 1:1 teaching, supporting transitions into local schools.
In return we offer:
A supportive team of day school and residential staff who work together to promote learning.
The option of renting a low cost 4 bedroom home on-site if needed.
