Our college is a coed U9 secondary school in Masterton approaching its 100th anniversary. It draws from urban, farming, mountain and coastal communities across the Wairarapa. With over 1,000 students we are the largest secondary school in the region.

The college community is actively proud of its century-long tradition. Equally, the community strongly echoes the board’s desire for us to be a school of the future.

The college has had a recent period of extremely positive transformation. To take this further, the board has conducted stakeholder consultation to inform the school's 2020+ strategy. Most applauded is the introduction (and potential) of Kaiarahi Akoranga/Academic Mentoring and digital core classes. Work-ons include wellbeing topmost, with cultural responsiveness, curriculum development, pathways and communications also high priorities.

Our school seeks an experienced leader with:

  • The commitment to embed Te Ao Māori and embrace our Pasifika and other cultures
  • Skills to entrench culturally responsive practice, genuinely student-centred
  • Skills to boost and implement emerging pedagogies in teaching and learning
  • Bold, innovative and informed thinking in curriculum development
  • Skills for building high-quality communication channels across school and whānau
  • Expertise in change management and people management
  • The openness to harness our wider community as a valuable school resource
  • The ability to inspire and enable stakeholders to deliver a new strategic vision
  • A concise, evidence-based approach.

This is an exciting time to join our school. Major property redevelopment is in progress with stage 1 complete and stage 2 and 3 in the details phase. A local Kāhui Ako has recently formed, and NCEA achievement is increasing. Our board is responsive and open-minded, valuing meaningful systems, transparency and relationship building. He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
