We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, progressive educational leader to join our school. This is a rare opportunity for the right person to lead a high-performing full primary (Y1–8) school supported by a strong, vibrant community in the heart of Taranaki.

With a roll of 341, our ‘city school with a country heart’ emphasises collaborative relationships and has an innovative curriculum. Supported by talented, hard-working staff, our students enjoy a huge range of opportunities. We live our vision that: 'Through key partnerships our school students will become confident, connected, actively involved and lifelong learners.'

Our school, on the south side of New Plymouth, includes students from the Highlands Park suburb and nearby country areas. We are fortunate to have 29 different cultures represented at our school and Māori students make up 15% of the roll. We are well-resourced with an established, high-performing staff and senior leadership team, strong governance and an active PTA. We provide a caring, supportive learning environment for all and place a strong emphasis on student leadership.

We are seeking a principal who is:

  • A passionate, visionary leader with the drive to build on the achievements and direction of a full primary school
  • An experienced educational leader with a strong track record of staff and student leadership and community engagement
  • A leader who views wellbeing as a collective and individual responsibility and can engage in a range of practices to foster hauora
  • A leader who celebrates the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
  • A strong communicator and innovative thinker with a commitment to continuous improvement and lifelong learning
  • Someone with a collaborative leadership style that empowers staff to develop an innovative curriculum that enhances student achievement for all learners.
