We are a leading Anglican independent school situated in Hamilton that has a commitment to providing education of the highest quality for its 750 students.

Due to a retirement, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, knowledgeable and strategic-thinking person to join our senior leadership team. 

Responsible for the leadership and administration of our NCEA, Scholarship and Cambridge curriculum from Y11–13, the deputy headmaster (academic) is the chair of the school’s curriculum committee, has responsibility for academic achievement and assessment, and has overview of timetabling and option structures. In conjunction with the assistant headmaster, the deputy headmaster (academic) is also the principal’s nominee and school liaison with Ministry of Education and NZQA.

To succeed in this role, candidates will require an advanced understanding of curriculum management and development, have a proven record of educational leadership and possess a sound knowledge of current educational theory and practice. Experience or an ability to assist with the formulation and development of school timetables would also be an advantage.

As our academic leader, the deputy headmaster, academic must possess an ability to assist with subject option selection and career advice, have a commitment to engaging and extending students and have the confidence and ability to build and maintain positive and credible relationships with students, staff and the wider school community.

A member of the senior leadership team, this role reports to and works closely with the headmaster. Candidates will need to be a qualified and successful teacher (there is approximately 10 hours of teaching each week) and be willing to commit to both a summer and winter co-curricular activity as well as be available for the time commitment that a senior management role entails.
