We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced early childhood kaiako to join our committed team of professionals, in our early childhood centre on Waiheke Island. We are a small, friendly community-based centre licensed for 30 tamariki. Our centre operates Monday to Friday 7.30am to 5pm, during school term and school holidays. Our centre location is within close proximity to both primary and high schools, and direct access to public transport from both ferry terminals.

We have a part-time/full-time position available for either a fully registered early childhood kaiako or a 3rd year student in their final year of study for an ECE Diploma of Teaching or equivalent.

Our centre runs under the NZEI collective agreement and we offer consistent management support, competitive remuneration, regular professional development, generous non-contact time and great support and guidance for provisionally registered teachers. Other benefits include 12 days' sick leave per year, paid teacher registration renewal and first aid. The right person needs to be energetic and enthusiastic and a team player, who is committed to providing best teaching practices and learning outcomes for tamariki. We strongly value outdoor education and run a bush school programme 3 mornings a week at our local Whakanewha Regional Park. A willingness to be a part of this programme would be an advantage.

Our ideal kaiako will demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Ability to contribute to the professional reputation of the centre
  • Demonstrate a passion for and a commitment to teaching and learning with a focus on delivering quality learning outcomes for tamariki based on the NZ early childhood curriculum Te Whāriki
  • Commitment to quality teaching and learning
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team member positively and proactively.

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
