NZQA aspires to be New Zealand's leading government agency. It has a team of people who are committed to quality education for all New Zealanders. We work hard to provide a rewarding and challenging workplace that offers personal growth, work-life balance and job satisfaction for all our staff.

Based in Wellington and reporting to the manager evaluation, the lead evaluator is a specialist senior operational role responsible for conducting external evaluation reviews on all non-university tertiary organisations (TEOs) registered to deliver educational programmes and award qualifications. In this role you will direct and coordinate small teams of evaluators, subject matter experts and other interested parties in the review of TEOs to ensure the continued quality of tertiary education outcomes across the sector.

To be successful in this role you will need to be available to undertake regular domestic travel and able to manage a consistently high workload. You'll have a demonstrated ability to lead small teams, gather evidence and make professional judgements based on the evidence collected, and have experience with peer reviews and professional reflective practices. You'll be able to write clear, well-evidenced and evaluative reports for the general reader. A background or experience in evaluation would be an advantage, as would some knowledge of tikanga Māori and/or te reo Māori.

NZQA is accountable for managing the New Zealand Qualifications Framework, administering the secondary school assessment system, independent quality assurance of non-university education providers, qualifications recognition and standard setting for some specified unit standards.

NZQA has a goal to be a te reo Māori learning organisation by 2020.
