A special residential school in Christchurch on the east coast of the picturesque South Island of New Zealand is looking for an experienced special needs teacher who is passionate about bringing out the best in challenging students and energised by giving young people opportunities for success.
The school offers a 24 hour 7 day a week curriculum which is supported by specialist resources, individualised programmes and highly trained staff, all in a stable and nurturing environment. Students benefit from a highly differentiated and adaptive curriculum. They have extensive opportunities to participate and succeed in the school and wider community. The curriculum is specifically designed to balance academic learning and living skills, and to significantly enhance students’ social and emotional competencies. The school curriculum and vision are both focused on supporting students to independently reintegrate into their community.
The successful candidate will have strengths and experience in:
Working one to one with individual students as well as with small groups of young people aged 8–16 years presenting with high and complex needs and challenging behaviours
An ability and willingness to keep student laptops and i-Pads maintained and updated as required and source digital resources that would enhance student learning
Enhancing the students' personal, social and behavioural skills and enable optimum learning to occur to successfully transition students back to their family, school and community
Being flexible to provide classroom release so colleagues can meet with the wraparound professional teams that support most of our students.
