We are looking for a teacher with the experience and training to work with a group of teenagers who have a programme based on life skills designed to meet their sensory needs. The teacher will have the skills to relate to and teach to a range of diverse abilities and capabilities and work in both mainstream and special education settings.
The ideal candidate will:
Be a New Zealand registered teacher, with proven experience in working with students with special needs in a satellite / mainstream context
Be able to develop and implement systems which promote independence
Be able to implement a range of curricula
Have a range of effective skills that assist students with intellectual impairment in learning
Have a sense of humour, flexible approach, and effective organisational skills
Have a special education qualification and/or have participated in professional development that is relevant to the needs of students with special needs
Have good communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage and work with teams, as well as parents / whānau, caregivers and colleagues in a caring and supportive manner.
