We are looking to fill a number of roles – either as regional teacher advisors or learning area advisors in the Auckland, Gisborne, Bay of Plenty and Northland regions.

We are looking for experienced secondary school educators to work as mentors in our employment-based initial teacher education qualification, the Masters of Teaching and Education Leadership (MTEL).

The purpose of the MTEL programme is to provide future teachers and leaders from discipline areas identified by current market needs with a registrable initial teacher education qualification. Run in partnership with Teach First NZ: Ako Mātātupu, we aim to develop high calibre teachers in low decile high schools throughout New Zealand. 

  • The regional teacher advisor helps support our training teachers as they develop their teaching competencies.

 The support the RTA provides will be primarily school-based. 

The learning area advisor is an experienced educator who will support our training teachers in their specialty curriculum area, specifically we are looking for specialists in the following curriculum areas:

  • Te reo Māori
  • Mathematics and statistics
  • Chemistry
  • Graphics and visual design. 

The support the LAA provides will primarily be online-based.

These roles are an opportunity for registered educators with a strong understanding of effective pedagogy who are passionate about teacher mentoring, to work in collaboration with local schools in developing emerging teachers across a range of subject areas. 

Desired experience includes but is not limited to: 

  • Expertise in culturally responsive and innovative pedagogy
  • Experience in initial teacher education, professional learning and development in schools, or teacher mentoring
  • Experience of working in low decile schools.
