The centre operates under the governance and management of the Ngāti Hine Health Trust. The trust provides a broad range of services that contribute to the holistic wellbeing of whānau, hapū and iwi. The centre is a solar operated earth building created from rammed earth.

The centre provides full-day education and care for tamariki up to 5 years of age in 4 age-related rooms. The outdoor learning environment is separated in 3 – an area for pepi (6 months–2 years), an area for rumaki reo (full immersion of te reo Māori – 2–5 years) and an area for a reo rua (bicultural learning – 3–5 years). Each teaching team has developed its own philosophy to guide teaching practices.

Kaupapa Māori theory underpins teaching practices.

A fantastic opportunity has become available for 2 enthusiastic, nurturing and committed early childhood teachers for our rumaki reo ruma (part or full-time position).

Learning days here are very flexible and unhurried. Learning is wrapped around each individual tamaiti because learning naturally occurs at varying rates. Tamariki are supported naturally through manaakitanga and whanaungatanga. A kaupapa Māori foundation for learning is evident in practice. The curriculum is enriched by the acknowledgement of teachings of te ao Māori. Tamariki learn about connections to the seasons of the year and kaitiaki of nature. Para kore-zero waste is at the forefront of teaching and learning.

You will have:

  • A BEd/Dip Tch (ECE)
  • Provisional or full teacher certification
  • The ability to work well in a team environment
  • The ability to identify tamariki unique strengths, interests and needs
  • Great communication and time management skills.
  • Speaking te reo Māori would be ideal but if not be willing to learn and use daily.

New graduates are welcome to apply.
