It serves the rapidly developing town of Kingston (north) as well as the rural communities of Garston and Athol. It's less than an hour's drive to access all amenities at Queenstown or Frankton. South of Garston are the towns of Lumsden, Gore and Invercargill city.

Three teachers and a teacher aide meet the needs and abilities of the 35, Y1–8 students, through the provision of high-quality literacy and maths programmes. Communication and thinking skills are integrated into all aspects of school life.
