The Ministry of Education's learning support team is dedicated to providing the right services for children. We are seeking an experienced people leader who is committed to our inclusive approach to education and to putting the best outcomes for our children at the forefront of their work every day.

The service manager supports the local delivery of learning support services to children and young people with learning needs. The Ministry is modernising and improving learning support so it's easier to access, child-focused, flexible and better integrated with other social services and we need someone to help implement this change. Our team provides support to children aged 0–21 with additional learning needs.

The successful applicant will proactively contribute to a working environment that encourages high-performance, engagement, collaboration across teams, knowledge sharing, ongoing learning, creativity and innovation. We are looking for someone who can work alongside the manager learning support and wider team to build credibility and confidence in the Ministry and its work programmes.

It reports directly to the manager learning support, Hawke's Bay/Tairawhiti, and is an integral part of the regional learning support leadership team.

We are looking for a person who has the following:

  • Prior experience in leading service delivery within the public, private, social or education sectors
  • Demonstrable skills in leading and motivating others, an ability to challenge, facilitate, supervise and coach others to increase capacity for excellence
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tikanga Māori and kawa
  • Change management experience
  • A relevant tertiary qualification.

If you have proven leadership experience, ideally within a large public sector organisation, and are known for your integrity and effective relationship skills, then don't miss this opportunity to be part of a team committed to improving the education of our local tamariki and tauira with additional learning needs.
