Applications for a board position on the New Zealand Council for Educational Research (NZCER) Board are open now. $333 per day, 12–20 days per annum. Reasonable and actual travel and other expenses related to board duties will be paid.

The New Zealand Council for Educational Research (NZCER) is an independent research and development organisation that does education research, and produces research-based products and services for teachers, learners, policy makers, researchers, and parents. NZCER also provides expert advice and information, and seeks to lead debate on key educational issues.

Established in 1934, NZCER is mostly self-funded funded through research contract work and a range of products and services. 

NZCER is governed by a board of 9 members. One person (i.e. this position) is appointed by the Minister of Education, 3 members are appointed by the NZCER board, and 5 members are appointed by the board as a result of an electoral college process.

Skills and experience relevant to the position:

The board is particularly interested in strengthening its understanding and connection to Pacific students and their education needs through having a board member with current, practical classroom knowledge.

As a group the board members are responsible for:

  • The overall governance of the NZCER
  • Building a connected programme of research, products and services to contribute new insights to current educational issues, and support better outcomes for learners.

Members may also be required to be on board sub-committees. NZCER board members can access ongoing training and development to enhance their governance skills.
